Hi! My name is Sophia and I am offering tutoring for Year 7-10 Maths. I am a recent graduate of a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash, and graduated from Mentone Girls' Secondary College in 2020, receiving a scaled study score of 41 in Mathematical Methods and 42 in Specialist Mathematics. As an Access and Biomedical Science Mentor at Monash, I understand the stress and pressure of high school, which is why I am willing to use my past experience to guide and help each student to reach their goals and potential. My style of tutoring places great emphasis on targeting students points of needs and helping them improve on their weaknesses. I ensure each student understands each concept and how it relates to the bigger picture of the curriculum as I have found that it is very easy for students to forget the core reason of why specific content is taught. From experience, I’ve found that interactive learning is the most effective way of learning, including going through practice questions and concepts or relating it to daily problems. Additionally, being exposed to content before it being taught in school has been useful, so I also like to teach ahead of the curriculum. I strive to provide feedback to students and their parents on points of strengths and weaknesses after lessons, in order to track their progress and areas of improvement. I provide online and phone support, whether it be a call or a text, to my students outside of lessons. I believe there is no such thing as a silly question, so I demonstrate patience and support to students, encouraging true understanding, rather than regurgitation of formulas and equations.
