About

Hi everyone I am a highly qualified Science and Maths teacher. I’ve been teaching for 14 years in Australia and the UK and have 7+ years of experience teaching Biology at an independent school in Sydney. In addition to this I am also an experienced HSC marker (4+ years) and pilot marker. Each year my students grow in confidence and engagement achieving an increased understanding and results that they can be individually proud of. Do you need some extra help understanding your senior Biology content? With year 12 starting this term it’s a great time to make sure you are on top of everything so that you can do your best in each and every assessment of your HSC year. Or are you in the junior years and wanting to build a solid foundation of skills, knowledge and understanding to help you during the current school year but also set you up for stage 6 learning. I have room to take on a couple of students (either weekly or fortnightly for tutoring). I can do online sessions eg zoom for between $75 - 100/hr depending on the year level and additional aid required outside of sessions (eg practice marking etc in prep for yr 12). If you have any questions, please reach out and ask as it’s very important to get the right tutor.

As a Year 12 student at an academically rigorous independent school, I’ve had the privilege of learning under many tutors over the years. However, none have matched the clarity, structure, and genuine care that Ms B brings to every session. Having worked with her for over four years, I can confidently say that her guidance has made a tangible difference in both my academic performance and personal confidence. ++Outstanding Junior Science Tutoring (Years 9–10)++ I began lessons with Ms B at the end of Year 9. Despite my (at the time) questionable time management skills, I achieved a very pleasing result of 95%, a testament to her structured approach and high-quality resources. Her materials for junior science are exceptionally well-crafted - far superior to what is typically available in the market - and helped cut through the noise of overly detailed textbooks that often overwhelm students. Our sessions were always sharply focused and rich with targeted practice, something I found sorely lacking in both school and large tutoring centres, which tend to treat junior years as an afterthought. ++Transformational Support in Year 10 Physics++ I initially struggled with Year 10 Physics due to its mathematical slant, but Ms B’s step-by-step explanations turned confusion into confidence. Her ability to tailor her teaching to my learning style was instrumental in helping me achieve First in Cohort for physics that year. Her tutoring style doesn’t just “teach content”; it builds deep conceptual understanding. ++A Strong Foundation for HSC Biology Success++ One of Ms B’s most valuable contributions was helping me lay a strong foundation in Years 9 and 10 that directly translated into success in senior science. The Year 11–12 syllabi for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics frequently revisit and build on earlier concepts. Photosynthesis, for instance, first introduced in Year 7, is extensively examined in Year 11 Biology. Thanks to the groundwork we laid early on, senior science felt more like revision and enrichment than entirely new content. As a result, my HSC Biology results have been consistently strong, and I’ve been able to engage with the subject at a higher level of depth and confidence. ++A Supportive and Enriching Learning Environment++ What truly sets Ms B apart is the environment she creates: productive, pressure-free, and genuinely encouraging. If you (or your child) feel intimidated by the idea of tutoring or fear being judged, rest assured: Ms B is warm, approachable, and deeply invested in her students’ growth. Every lesson felt purposeful and, dare I say, even (often) fun: especially if you're committed and ready to engage. And yes, she is an HSC marker, and her insider knowledge of how responses are assessed is invaluable. She doesn’t just teach you what to learn: she teaches you how to demonstrate it effectively under exam conditions.

Vanessa tutored me for a while now, supporting me through Year 12 HSC Biology. Vanessa knows the syllabus inside out and works to ensure I have an understanding of everything with solid examples. From her expereince as a HSC marker and a HSC teacher her wisdom and knowledge is amazing. She is very responsive even minutes before my exam! Vanessa's help leading up to Trials was amazing as she has lots of knowledge about the CSSA papers and what they have done in the past. Ultimately, Vanessa is more than just a tutor, she has mentored me and allowed me to make mistakes and grow from them.

I started working with Vanessa for just over 6 months for Y11 biology, she has been really helpful in consolidating, clarifying and understanding content. Through unpacking complex topics and giving a broader understanding of the content as a whole, she has been great in explaining both the ‘need to know’ syllabus topics and any questions that go beyond it. Venessa being a qualified teacher and HSC marker has been really helpful to getting insight into how to improve my grades by getting specific feedback on any practise questions from the outlook of what HSC markers are looking for.

When it comes to HSC Biology, you want a tutor who not only knows the content inside and out but also genuinely cares about their students' success. That's Vanessa. She's been a dedicated biology teacher for years, and her experience shows in every lesson she teaches. What really makes her a standout is her history as an HSC marker. She knows exactly what makes an answer go from good to great. She understands the subtle nuances of the marking criteria and can teach students how to structure their responses to earn maximum marks. She's not just a teacher; she's a mentor who inspires a love for biology. Students consistently report that she's able to explain even the trickiest concepts with clarity and patience. Choosing Vanessa means you're getting a passionate, knowledgeable, and highly effective tutor who is deeply invested in her students' success.
