With over 300 hours of debating tutoring experience in a wide range of settings – including one-on-one, group classes, school teams and adjudicating – he has developed a rigorous and engaging style of tutorial that involves learning the basics of constructing analytically sound arguments, and applying these precepts across a variety of topics. With a wide range of academic interests, William caters to the interests of students in order to foster a love for speech and oratory, equipping them with the skills for life-long success beyond the classroom. Debating, in its crystallised form, requires a breadth of knowledge that stretches passed the books and curricula encountered at school, and it is this approach that he seeks to cultivate within his students. However, its value in the real since has only increased. As a teacher, I have observed many incredibly intelligent students who are unable to effectively articulate their ideas to their peers – while this may not matter when sitting an SAT exam, it certainly matters when they enter their medicine interview or have to argue a case in court. The ability to speak and communicate effectively is not merely the domain of the Aristotle's and Plato's of classical antiquity: it has permeated the communities we live in, and helping students master it gives them not just a leg up in school, but in life. 📚 Lessons and Content 📚 The value of one-on-one tutoring is the malleability of lessons in order to cater to the interests of students. While the specific content will vary based on the student, I look to firmly situate a student's learning within practice: writing arguments, delivering speeches, studying exemplars. A process of constant feedback and reflection serves dividends in both one's ability but also importantly their understanding of a concept.
