Hi my name is Will and I am currently studying the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery at ANU. I have also finished a Bachelor of Medical Science majoring in medical immunology at UNSW (finished 2023). I have 3+ years experience in tutoring and have tutored over 20 students ranging from years 8 to 12, as well as tutoring experience in the GAMSAT.
I received an ATAR of 97.80 and a top band in the following subjects:
- English Extension 1
- Mathematics Advanced
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Science Extension
I also have high GAMSAT achievement in both the March 2023 (96th percentile) and September 2023 (98th percentile) with at least 70 in each section (section 1: 72, section 2: 78, section 3: 81) displaying high reasoning skills which can be applied to high school learning.
Work life balance is very much a key to getting through school. Often high school students, under the immense pressure, find themselves saturated and overwhelmed with their work. The HSC syllabi for science doesn't help this, leaving an ambiguous case for what needs to be learned, exacerbated by the broad and complex areas which are covered in current textbooks. But I am here to say that there is a way through.
I believe that the key to learning is through discussion and engagement, particularly for biology and chemistry which have difficult concepts to grasp. In my lessons I go over the key points and underlying scientific ideas which cover each syllabus learning point in appropriate depth. Then through discussion, these points can be expanded, with students being challenged to apply their knowledge to larger contexts and applications. I also cover strategies to tackling HSC science exams and methods to identify what areas of knowledge need to utilised in exam scenarios. All my previous students have mentioned that this has given them greater confidence in their knowledge and ability to apply their knowledge to questions.
