You must be wondering "yo what's that parrot doing here?" Well the answer is that parrot (and I) have been waiting for you to come sit down and have a little woodfire session with us about this whole thing called tutoring.

I suppose every tutor profile you’ve come across sounds like a competition to tell one most incredible story. Big numbers. Flashy credentials. To convince you they are a good fit to get you that 99.95. And it could be a little frustrating for you to differentiate between who would help you fix your incredible HSC story at 3am, and who would take out their laptop while you’re struggling to do uni work, and continue writing their own incredible story.
Well, let me tell you two incredible stories.
Student A, like any Year 8 student, sees schools and tutoring classes through a lens of fear of disappointing her parents. One time, the little girl stood up halfway through a lesson, crying to the tutor that she wants to stop tutoring,
“I don't want to waste my parents' money if I'm not going to be motivated to learn anything anyway," she said.”
She added that she was already done with her final math exam and just wanted a break. And despite giving her numerous worksheets with step-by-step hand-written explanation for each statistical concept like mean and mode (plus hand-drawn super cute creatures guiding her through the notes) …
… the tutor heard she got a 65/100, placing her last in class.
Then, something changed. While studying for her first Year 9 math exam, she said, “Even though I’m dumb, my parents still pay for this tutoring, and you still believe in me. I want to do better. I want to make everyone, especially myself, proud.”
And after annoying her tutor every night with math questions leading up to the exam, she got a 93, placing her 3rd in her cohort.

Student B was a HSC student. Her internal assessments had been average, but her low-scaled subject combination and performance of her cohort put her in a risky position for a good ATAR that guaranteed an entry to Bachelor of Medical Studies at UNSW.
Leading up to the HSC exam week, on top of staying up every night to fix her generic essays, typing notes, sending her written math solution over Instagram while studying for his own actuarial exams, the tutor allocated a large portion of time reminding her that this would be her final fight to get something fruitful from her 12 years of studying journey. And it would be over soon. No regrets.
I would say that she lost that fight, given that she didn’t get the offer…
But against all odds, she decided to keep her dream of being a dermatologist. She accepted another offer, and now she’s going from annoying me with her creative essays to annoying me with her GAMSAT writings.
I am proud of both.
There has always been a belief that, tutoring is a perfect solution to bad marks. People pay for private tutoring class looking for individual attention and school results. But while you may want me to get you where you want,
I simply can’t, not on my own.
If you want someone that is capable of giving you the knowledge, who never gives up on you, that’s me. Handwriting your tailored notes (plus cute animals), going through every question style to see which one you did worst, or asking every single one person for the most up-to-date trial papers that thsc doesn’t have. I can promise you all of that.
But I want you to never give up on yourself, and know that life doesn’t stop when your HSC ends. Your limit is not defined by the ATAR you dream of or the one you achieve.
Your limit is defined by you.
* parrot nods solemnly, then fluffs its feathers, as if to say, “You’ve got this.”
Looking forward to knowing and working with you guys!
