Hi there! My name is Andrew & I graduated from Fort Street High School in 2019. I graduated with an atar of 97.65 & I studied English Adv., Mathematics Ext 2, Physics & Economics. I'm currently studying Data Science & Financial Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Sydney. I have over 2 years experience teaching Mathematics, English & Critical Thinking, including key cognitive skills & causal logic. I've had students from all around Sydney. In fact, I've even taught someone in Canada over Zoom! My friends & family know I have a serious passion for education. Not only is it fun watching people learn, but it's vitally important that people have the knowledge & skills to serve themselves & society. Teaching is also an opportunity for me to continue developing my communication skills, i.e., in explaining ideas clearly, effectively and in engaging ways. I believe that a key goal with any student is to help the student feel motivated to work hard. Encouraging students for their hard work rather than their talents has repeatedly shown in studies to be more effective for motivating the student & achieving better results. Yet, many teachers don't adopt this habit in their teaching & students either incorrectly blame themselves for a lack of talent or become complacent due to a perceived ease of achieving good results (in the short term). To help with this, I always make sure to focus on rewarding the efforts of my students and on giving them clear steps as to how to apply themselves and make the necessary efforts to improve their results & knowledge.
