Tutoring near Saint Lucia, Brisbane, QLD

About

Hi, I'm Bailey! 3 years tutoring experience, 99.85 ATAR, school prefect and captain of House. Received a general exhibition (Top 50 students) in WACE in 2021, and a Certificate of Excellence for Physics (Came 2nd in the state). As an experienced tutor I focus not only on working with students to help build their intuitive thinking and explain course concepts, but also help them develop organisational and analytical skills so that they can always perform at their best. At my school (Hale School, Perth) I balanced my academic life alongside my leadership exploits as a School Prefect, House Captain, and Cross-Country Captain, and was also involved in other sporting teams and co-curricular activities like swimming, mock trials, debating, tennis and rock climbing. I believe that these experiences allowed me to grow my soft skills in a way that has positively impacted my tutoring ability, as I am able to personalise each tutoring experience to the specific student I am teaching. I currently study at a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Engineering at the University of Queensland where I was offered the Liveris Scholarship for Young Leaders and Innovators. I plan to major in Chemical and Environmental engineering where I hope to focus on renewable energy and Hydrogen fuelling. I am very comfortable using online applications to conduct tutoring lessons, where I use video calling software with both a high quality camera and a digital stylus and whiteboard. As a tutor I have 3 key criteria that I always aim to achieve: - I aim to connect with my students I believe that forming a positive connection with my students is essential to their learning, as this is what will create a positive working environment where they will feel confident and safe to learn. I think this aspect of my tutoring is what sets me apart from some other tutors, and I think it is also the reason for the success of my students. - I am about helping a student learn a concept, not memorise it When I tutor my students, I do not so much provide a "lesson" but instead I aim to collaborate with students to make them understand concepts. When I teach someone I don't just want them to know how to apply a concept or use a formula, I want them to understand why that formula concept works and applies. - I show my students the best strategies for dealing with questions and assessments At school, not everything is about how smart you are. A large component of learning at school is to learn the study habits and strategies that are going to enable you to excel during assessment periods. When I work with my students, I aim to incorporate these skills and strategies into the sessions so that my students will be able to deal with the pressure of test situations. I am a passionate and hardworking educator with a high understanding of the the requirements of school, so please send me a message and I will be happy to help! I look forward to hearing from you. --- I have a valid working with children's card for Queensland and Western Australia ---
