About

8 years experience 💫 40+ students tutored 💫 Advanced Mathematics 98 💫 Advanced English 96 💫 Sydney Boys High School (2015) | UNSW Law/Commerce (2020) | Lawyer Why choose me as a tutor? - I have been tutoring for 8 years, and have taken on over 40 students from all different backgrounds and academic levels. I find that the student-teacher relationship is a wonderful and deeply interesting puzzle that, once figured out, translates to a very rewarding experience for both myself and the student. I find genuine enjoyment in being given the privilege to be such an integral component of a student's formative development, and I hope to be a strong positive influence and role model. - I have also coached high school students for a range of sports for 5 years (Cricket/Rugby/Athletics/Weightlifting), where I have been able to see how students behave in environments other than the formal tuition setting. I believe this gives me a more holistic insight into the types of communication that a student may be most receptive to. - I am currently working as a Lawyer at Ashurst. I will translate my skill-set from work in order to take an organised and methodical approach to the student's learning. I regularly create plans with my students to ensure that we have a focused strategy to cover the syllabus, tailored to the students' individual needs. - I personally had a lot of trouble with Mathematics in early high school but developed over time and managed to finish the HSC with and Advanced Mathematics mark of 98. The reason why I share this is because I believe that if someone has always been talented in an area, they have never had to break down each element of a subject to strive - they have just seen it as second nature. While this may be good in practice, I believe having a tutor who understands the broken down elements of each subject and how they interact makes for a much more effective tutor. The ideal student for me to tutor will... - bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn; - openly communicate with me if they are ever stuck on a concept; and - communicate with me ahead of time if they are unable to complete any homework set, whether for other pressing commitments or for the complexity of the work.

Reviews

Tutoring with Rick was always an enjoyable experience as he helped me stay on top of my maths work as well as offering general life and organisation advice. He helped explain content in depth and set homework so that I had a thorough understanding of the questions I would see in exams, but he was still flexible and understanding of my extracurriculars and assignments for other subjects. Rick definitely made the learning environment a very supportive and engaging one!

I believe I was Rick's very first student that he tutored and it was a pretty incredible experience. He tutored me for Maths Advanced, Maths Extension 1, English Advanced, and English Extension 1 all throughout year 11 and 12. I remember being pretty scared at first, and wasn't really sure what to expect, but what I got was someone who was like an older brother to me, who was so willing to share his knowledge and help me get better. He was always willing not just to tutor, but give me life and schooling advice too. At first Rick did make some mistakes and wasn't sure about some topics but he made sure to put in the effort to get better so I would never feel unsure about what I was doing. It was quite special to see Rick get better at tutoring, at the same time that I was becoming better academically, and it was so rewarding to have a reciprocal relationship where we both learned from each other. Rick always set boundaries and standards for homework/class work, but was still flexible and understanding of the extracurricular loads that I was carrying. He would always try to dedicate extra time to the areas I had weaknesses in, and celebrated whenever progression was made. There were many times during year 12 where I struggled, especially with mathematics, but I found his explanations/resources really amazing and eventually started to have favourite topics in math. Even as someone who excelled at English, I definitely benefitted an incredible amount from his English tutoring, as he was someone who encouraged me to think outside the box, engage my personal agenda and write freely, and gave me excellent feedback that made me feel so much more confident about what I was writing and how I was articulating it. I continued to have an excellent relationship with Rick even after he completed tutoring me, and I am very thankful for his guidance and assistance throughout HSC and beyond. If anyone is considering Rick as a tutor, I would highly recommend it.

Studying with Rick was always something to look forward to as he made process of learning something new very comprehensive. His combination of adept verbal explanations, meticulous deconstruction of complex questions and well paced homework blueprint helped me tremendously through my final highschool years. His tutoring ability encompasses not only literacy and numeracy, but most importantly on how to study. Such that, he has taught me how to tackle any challenge in life, on or off the books. Personality wise, Rick is very outgoing an approachable. He is the first person I felt I need to talk to after exams, regardless of how they went. Having his moral support meant a lot during our time together.

I have known Rick throughout university and I currently am a colleague of his at work. I know him to be an extremely conscientious and hard working individual who always thinks of others' needs and how he can help them. He is very organised, and planning things with him is always very easy because he is proactive and takes the initiative to organise any plans. I would not hesitate to recommend him as a tutor to any student.
