About

99.90 ATAR | Highest possible score in Double Specialist Mathematics | Gungahlin College Dux of 2021 | 2+ years experience. Tutoring for Years 7-12 Maths and years 11-12 Physics. Online or in person. Hello! My name's Taaseen and I'm currently enrolled in my third year at the Australian National University's Bachelor of Philosophy - Science with a major in Astronomy/Astrophysics, Minor in Maths, and Specialisation in Advanced Physics — a degree that I hope will transition into a career in astrophysics research. My goal is to help high school and college students be prepared for maths in college and beyond, whether they're struggling to keep up, or are looking for a head-start. After completing Gungahlin College's "Year 10 SMART Program" in 2019, I continued in year 11 and 12 where I studied: English, Double Specialist Mathematics, Physics, Economics, and ANU Extension Astrophysics. My best subjects — those that counted towards my ATAR — were my Mathematics double major, Physics major, and ANU Astrophysics minor. I achieved scores above 210/229 for each subject — including a 229/229 in maths — ultimately giving me an ATAR of 99.90 from an aggregate score of 796.15 — the highest aggregate in Gungahlin College history as of 2021. This was enough to earn me the ANU's 'National University Scholarship'. Please feel free to message me if you'd like proof of my scores. So, what exactly was the secret to my scores? It's simple: I actually enjoy maths and physics. What I found throughout college and in my university studies is that maths (and by extension, physics) is a lot less abstract than it seems. Behind every seemingly arbitrary formula or equation, there is logic and reasoning — and often even beauty — in how and why it exists. This was my secret throughout college and how I continue to succeed in university; instead of just memorising a formula, I look at how formula comes to exist, eliminating the need to ever memorise it. Even if I forget the formula for the height that a thrown projectile would reach, or for the volume of a cone, it doesn't matter if I can create the formula myself. This is how I came to not just be good at maths and physics, but to actually enjoy maths and physics. And it's this appreciation for the hidden logic of maths that I want to show my students. I do this by adding a visual and intuitive interpretation of mathematical concepts typically untaught in schools, and connecting topics via ideas that are taught beyond a student's year level but are not necessarily difficult. This is helpful to both students that are struggling and those looking for a head-start: struggling students can find a different way to understand concepts they're struggling with, finding a way for difficult concepts to 'click'; whilst more advanced students can gain a deeper understanding of those said concepts, using that understanding to go beyond what they're taught in school. I will be available to tutor either in person (anywhere north of Civic, possibly further south on a case-by-case basis) or online through Zoom or some other online call software. I will be available on weekends and some weekdays -- feel free to message me about my schedule.
