Hi my name is Ivan and I graduated from Melbourne High School in 2019 with an ATAR of 98.65 and raw study scores of 44 and 41 in methods and specialist respectively. I have tutored 40+ students over the last 5 years and have approximately 3000+ hours of tutoring experience. As a student from years 7-10, I was like any other kid; I didn’t care too much about my education and just wanted to play basketball and hang out with my friends, which led to me failing math in year 10. I know what it feels like to have to work from the basics and develop an understanding that some schools don’t develop very well. As such, the students I’ve worked most with are students that are somewhat struggling with the harder mathematical concepts that come in year 10 and onwards (which some teachers tend to over complicate or not explain properly). My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain difficult concepts in a logical way; using real life examples and reasoning to show why a certain mathematical formula is the way it is. In doing so, I tend to often ask my students to ‘complete the end of my sentences’, engaging them and provoking them to understand WHY we do certain things in math, not just HOW to do those things. To consolidate my students’ knowledge, I also have plenty of practice material with various difficulties, some of which I have wrote myself, some of which I have bought from schools and companies.
