About

PREMIUM TUTORING for academic excellence, 9+ years of experience in IB/VCE/Uni Maths, Physics, Chemistry and university tutoring and assessing. I have been working as a private tutor for over nine years and have tutored students ranging from Year 6 through to Masters-level University students. I have also worked as a Lead University Tutor at the University of Melbourne for over four years, where I have worked with lecturers and students, and taught various first and second year Engineering subjects. From this, I have extensive experience in exam (oral and written), assignment, and report marking, so I know exactly what markers are looking for from students and how to get students the top marks in the best time! Work experience includes: - Full-time professional Mechatronics and Systems Engineer in various industries, including manufacturing, rail (the metro tunnel project in Melbourne) and defence. - Entrepreneur in the education industry, founder of GabriellaTutor. On top of my other work, I am continuing my private tutoring work as I have always enjoyed and been passionate about teaching and helping students with their studies! My previous education includes: - Master of Engineering with Distinction in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Melbourne (2020). - Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mechatronics Systems from the University of Melbourne (2017). - Achieving an IB score of 44/45 from Methodist Ladies' College, equivalent to a 99.85 ATAR (including 7 scores in HL Physics, HL Mathematics and HL Chemistry). In my tutoring sessions, I make them exciting and engaging by placing the focus on long-term student learning and understanding by giving the student a very active role in the session. In my experience, this has been the best way for students to retain what they have learned from tutoring sessions and then take that learning into their exams! In a tutoring session, I expect the student to have questions or topics prepared that they would like to work through. While working through questions, I hand the pen to the student and talk them through the question, noting what information to look for and how to approach the question to make it seem more familiar and less daunting, and providing prompts to help the student figure their way through the question. If the student is really struggling, I am happy to show them how I would solve the problem, and then I provide them with another, similar, question for them to do, with my prompting if needed, in order to consolidate that knowledge. While it's important to learn how to solve a question, I also pay attention to: the understanding and context behind the question, as this piques interest by showing why such questions may be important in the bigger picture; and how to write out an answer and the steps involved such that a marker gives the solution full marks. I also make sure that the tutoring session is a very positive experience for the student, and I focus on positive reinforcement and love to celebrate when a student succeeds or makes progress of any kind!! If you have any further questions about my teaching style, qualifications, or anything else related, please send me a message and I am happy to talk about this with you further.

Gabby supported our daughter through Yr 12 Chem. She is extremely kind, capable and patient. Gabby helped our daughter to better understand certain topics, as well as equip her with lifelong tools to manage studying, stress and overwhelm better. I highly recommend Gabby both as a tutor and mentor.

Gabby was an amazing support to our Year 12 IB studying son. She is very reliable and adapted to the curve balls COVID threw our way during 2021. Gabby has a lovely relaxed manner and related so well to our son. She is patient, funny, intelligent and down to earth. Gabby's support is something we will never forget. Our son achieved an amazing result and is thrilled to gain his first pref for university entrance this year. I would recommend Gabby to anyone who wants to give their son/ daughter a flying start to their studies, she is fantastic !
