**TAKING 2024 HSC STUDENT APPLICATIONS** Dear students and parents, My name is Indra Roy, I graduated in 2019 from Sydney Grammar School with an ATAR of 99.80, having achieved a Band 6 in all of my subjects. I received academic prizes at school for topping Latin (Year 9, 10) and Maths Extension 1 (Year 12). Currently, I am studying Medicine at UNSW. My academic achievements in the HSC (2019) are as follows: o Mathematics Extension 1: 48/50 o Mathematics (2U): 98/100 o Latin Extension: 49/50 o Latin Continuers: 96/100 o French Extension: 47/50 o French Continuers: 96/100 o Chemistry: 94/100 o English Advanced: 92/100 I have had four years of tutoring experience, tutoring students of all ages ranging from year 2 to year 12! I have extensively taught Mathematics and Latin at HSC extension level; as such I have a deep understanding of the HSC syllabus and what is required to achieve high marks. 📊 Teaching Methodology: Mathematics lessons are optimally conducted in person, focusing on a comprehensive review of classwork and extending students' capabilities with more challenging problems. In preparation for examinations, lessons emphasize solving exam-style questions, minimizing errors through meticulous working procedures, and equipping students with problem-solving techniques for challenging questions typically encountered towards the end of exams. Latin lessons are best conducted online. HSC-level sessions are dedicated to refining Latin-to-English translation skills, the most crucial aspect of the Latin examination. These sessions foster discussions on common themes and techniques within Latin prose and poetry, and address advanced techniques such as scansion. At a more junior level, lessons equally emphasize English-to-Latin translation – the trickiest part of junior year examinations! My dedication to teaching is underscored by the exceptional success my students have enjoyed. All of my regular students have exhibited substantial improvement, with many achieving results above the 90th percentile, and some even securing the top position in their grade. The following are the results of my year 12 students in recent years: 2023 Lulu G: Band 6s in Maths Advanced, Latin Continuers and Latin Extension Lucy J: Band 6s in Latin Continuers and Latin Extension Bernie H: Band 6 in Latin Continuers 2024 Matthew R: Maths Advanced 95/100, Maths Extension 45/50 (both Band 6) More about myself: Outside of academic experience, I have a strong passion for football and music. I play the piano, flute, drums and guitar and have been in a rock band for 12 years. I am fluent in French and am currently learning Spanish (when I have the time!) I offer tuition in Mathematics and Latin at a rate of $90 per hour, however this is a flexible rate and I am happy to negotiate. I am capable of doing tuition in-person or via Zoom. I would preferably tutor at my house as I am a busy Medicine student! However, I can travel within Sydney’s East to tutor you at your house.
