π ENGLISH TUTORING | YEARS 7β12 | BURWOOD & BLAKEHURST
98.75 ATAR | 5 years of English tutoring experience | Specialising in Years 11-12 | Groups of 5-10
Hi, Iβm Chelsea! I graduated from Sydney Girls in 2020 and study Commerce/Law at UNSW. My teaching style is friendly and supportive, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and discussing challenges.
Beyond English, I offer mentorship on navigating Year 12, managing workloads and staying motivated, alongside guidance on university life and degree choices drawn from my experience.
A little about my academic background:
β
1st in English Advanced in Year 11
β
Top 10 in English Advanced in Year 12
β
Top 10 in English Extension 1 in both Years 11 and 12
β
Top 5 in English Extension 2
β
98.75 ATAR
β
Five years of experience teaching English, including students who went on to become school duxes and achieve top 10 rankings
π¬ I didnβt always enjoy English
From Year 7-9, English wasnβt always a subject I looked forward to. I understand how frustrating it can feel to put effort into an essay and still be unsure why it isnβt receiving the marks you want.
Learning how to unpack questions, develop my own interpretations and understand how to fully answer the question AND having a good teacher definitely changed my experience of the subject.
My goal is to be that tutor for students to understand what makes their writing effective, recognise where they can improve and approach their next assessment with a clear plan.
π― Small-group lessons with personalised support
I offer two-hour group lessons with 5-10 students, with individual practice and feedback built into each session. Students bring different strengths, texts and assessment priorities. Before joining, I ask about their school, current texts, recent work and goals so I can assess which class would suit them.
Throughout the two hours, students work on tasks suited to their learning needs. While students complete independent writing, I rotate through the group to review work, answer questions and give specific feedback. Each student should leave knowing what they did well, what needs work and what to practise next.
Where possible, students will be grouped by year level and compatible texts or learning needs. School-specific classes may also open if there is enough demand, allowing lessons to follow a shared text and assessment schedule more closely.
βοΈ What happens during the two hours?
β’ First 30 minutes: A timed comprehension or writing quiz to build exam confidence and identify areas for improvement
β’ Remaining 90 minutes: Targeted teaching and practice tailored to studentsβ texts and learning needs, with individual feedback, time for questions and clear goals for the week ahead
