I'm Lachie and I have recently graduated from Sydney Grammar School in 2020 with an ATAR of 99+ studying English Advanced, English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Modern History, History Extension, Economics, Latin Continuers and Latin Extension. I'm currently a third-year Law/International Security Studies student with a High Distinction average, and I've now had 3 years experience tutoring roughly 10 hours weekly. Multiple students of mine have achieved State Ranks in HSC History/English under my tutelage, and I'm passionate about inspiring my students to immerse themselves in their subjects through their studies, and how their studies remain relevant to current affairs in Australia and globally. As the new HSC syllabus was only introduced in 2019, it can be very difficult to fully grasp what markers want to see, especially in humanities subjects which have seen a significant overhaul. As a tutor, I hope to equip my students with the requisite knowledge and exam technique to tackle any question, and I believe that my experience in private tutoring can help any humanities student to find more efficient ways to prepare than those often encouraged by teachers. I will also provide my students with a variety of notes I have accumulated throughout my schooling, as well as strategies and advice on how to tackle the changes encountered within the subjects I offer. I also have extensive past trial and exam papers which will be used to help hone exam technique and timing through my feedback. I tutor high school students from year 7-10 in english and history, as well as HSC level Modern History, History Extension and Economics, and all levels of HSC English. Within my lessons, I will closely follow the syllabus and instill an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the subject, providing particular feedback on writing style and pragmatic approaches to all texts. I also offer tutoring for the UNSW Law Admissions Test, in which I scored 100, where I can provide valuable insight into writing style and persuasive technique to maximise your success. Throughout Year 12 Lachie helped me across a wide range of humanities subjects as well as the Law Admissions Test (LAT). My Law Admissions Test (LAT) score went from 78th percentile (without Lachie's help) to 89th percentile (with Lachie's help). He has a natural understanding of the way that the test works and how it requires you to think, having gotten 100th percentile himself on his first try. Thus, he passed on tips and tricks to me, reading and giving detailed feedback on all aspects of my writing, from the structure, use of evidence and more elegant syntax. He read everything that I could write, handwritten or typed and not only improved my LAT score but my general ability to think critically. For other humanities, such as Modern History, History Extension and English, Lachie was constantly available to give me advice for everything from in-class homework tasks to HSC trial essay preparation. His ability to understand the essence of the syllabus and know exactly what needs to be known and included in essays is invaluable to doing well under the new syllabus. Additionally, he was able to pinpoint weak links in arguments and style errors that helped me as a writer and a thinker and boosted my marks. In the second English assessment, I was well within the bottom half of my year. By trials, with Lachie's help, I ranked 9th. In the second Modern History assessment, I ranked in the bottom half of the history cohort, with Lachie's help I got up to the top quarter by trials. In my Extension History report, I was ranked as second last in my class. With Lachie's help, I finished 4th in the year and was 1 mark off a High Distinction with a raw trial mark of 92. Lachie also gave me extensive help in Scholarship applications both domestically and abroad. He read iteration after iteration of my applications and gave excellent constructive feedback that allowed me to tailor my applications to my strengths. This led to me being shortlisted for 2 streams of the prestigious UNSW Co-op scholarship as well as winning the USyd Future Innovators Award, and putting in a strong application to US Ivy League Colleges (which have not released decisions as of yet). Lachie is one of the best humanities tutors around. He possesses an unparalleled knowledge of the subjects that he teaches and an open personality that makes him a natural teacher. You can't go wrong with Lachie.

Lachlan was very knowledgeable and professional in his assistance in his English tutoring of me. He was clear and intelligent and this led to a dramatic increase in my exam marks.
