About

Hi! My name is Celine and I am a graduate from Baulkham Hills High School and the University of New South Wales, having received multiple scholarships (including a UNSW Co-op Scholarship) and career offers from top consulting firms (Mckinsey, Bain). As someone who initially succumbed to the common misconception that English is ‘subjective’ and therefore ‘cannot be taught,’ I struggled to understand the intricacies of the subject, and moreover, how to consistently achieve high marks. Overtime however, I learned that critical analysis and even creative endeavours within the subject reside within certain parameters, and whilst natural ability indeed plays a part, many of the skills required to do well in English can be cultivated through hard work and developing an in depth understanding. After experiencing what I'd like to term a 'click' in my understanding of the subject, my marks went from 78 in the half yearly preliminary report, to 98 in the half yearly HSC report - a jump of 20 marks, from just above average to first in the grade in one year. From receiving average results throughout year 7-11, I ended up receiving full marks for Common Module, Module A, and Module B specific assessments, with my Module B essay also being selected as a NESA exemplar in the 2019 HSC. I understand that for a lot of students, English is confusing, and it was common among my friends for English to be their most hated subject. My goal as a tutor is thus not only to foster enjoyment, but provide clarity into how to achieve consistent high marks, even in the more 'subjective' areas. My teaching style is efficient and tailored to your needs, as I understand the immense stress that comes with balancing multiple subjects. My goal is to make English as enjoyable and easy to understand as possible, and I have an abundance of resources specific to the syllabus to facilitate this. In addition to English, I achieved band 6s in Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, Economics and Modern History, and as such have resources for those subjects I would be willing to give freely. I have also received multiple scholarships, leadership accolades, high ranks across several university subjects, scored 96 in the UNSW LAT exam, and am happy to do one-off lessons that cover multiple subjects and general HSC/ university advice :)
