Hello! My name is Miss Grace Geary and I am a fully qualified Secondary English Teacher in Rutherford, NSW. I am in my 11th year of classroom teaching and have both a Bachelor of Secondary Teaching (major in English) and a Master of Leadership and Management in Education. Alongside casual teaching work, I am offering private English tutoring for senior students (Year 11 and 12 - English Advanced and Standard) - to commence in Term 2 of 2026. I have an explicit, skills-focused teaching style and regularly mark summative assessments, formative tasks and HSC Trial Examination sections for both Advanced and Standard English. In 2025, I was responsible for piloting a Year 12 Writing Class initiative, during which I designed and delivered lessons on creative writing and critical reflection, essay structure, unpacking a question and writing a thesis, detailed analysis and the 'formula' for short answer questions. I have held positions at various schools in NSW, with experience in all areas of the discipline - basic skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation, structure, academic language etc.), text types (imaginative, analytical, discursive, reflective, persuasive etc.) and conceptual depth/analysis. Throughout my career, I have developed a particular interest in and expertise for working alongside individual students. I specialise in providing explicit and detailed feedback, as well as backward-mapping from outcomes and scaffolding the student's pathway to success. This includes employing diagnostic assessment and ensuring that I have an active knowledge of texts/assessments the student is working on in order to assist them to the best of my ability. I have worked for Kip McGrath (tutoring), held private additional lessons for my HSC students and have mentored students on many occasions. I have been responsible for writing Year 11 and 12 assessment tasks and marking criteria, as well as marking hundreds of formative and summative assessments each term. In terms of my personal demeanour, I am friendly, approachable and thoroughly enjoy teaching and learning, an attitude that my students find quite infectious. I strive to build a rapport with all students to foster a positive relationship in which mistakes and 'silly questions' are welcomed as a part of the learning process. Individual tutoring Weekly - 1 hour - $90 Fortnightly - 1 hour - $90 Single session ahead of an assessment or exam - 1 hour - $90 Group tutoring - (weekly, fortnightly or single session) Two students - 1 hour - $140 ($70 per student) Three students - 1 hour - $180 ($60 per student) Four students – 1 hour - $200 ($50 per student) Other options Comprehensive feedback on essay, imaginative piece or analytical/prep notes ahead of an assessment or examination (mark/aligned with criteria, suggestions, examples, annotations/edits all over the script) - $30 (or $50 with 15-minute Zoom meeting to discuss) ________________________________________________________________________________ Please note - the costs outlined above include all planning and preparation, resources provided etc. I am available to travel to your home (there may be a slight surcharge for locations far from Rutherford) or conduct sessions via Microsoft Teams.
