I graduated from Sydney Grammar School in 2019 with an ATAR of 99.95 and two state ranks in English. In 2023 I graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English, awarded with Honours Class I and the University Medal. I am now studying Medicine at the University of Sydney. Recently I spent more than four years as a class teacher and one-on-one tutor at a specialist English tuition firm, where I taught students from a range of schools, including Sydney Grammar School, James Ruse, Baulkham Hills, Sydney Boys, North Sydney Boys, and Sydney Girls. I also possess more than two years of experience tutoring for the University of Sydney in English, philosophy and anatomy. 📌 MY APPROACH As a University Medallist in English, I have a depth of insight, knowledge, and genuine expertise in the subject that few other tutors can claim. Just as importantly, however, I will also teach you the very particular ways of thinking that this subject demands, so you can go beyond rote memorisation and develop expertise of your own. Despite being fundamental for success in English, these ways of thinking are almost never explicitly taught at school. If you are struggling with this subject, it is likely that you were simply never taught this particular set of cognitive habits. The good news is that these are certainly not esoteric gifts that are innate in some and forever barred to everyone else. On the contrary, they are eminently teachable. I have taught them to many students and I will teach them to you too. 📌 MY OFFERINGS ● (1) Online tuition for English Advanced I have over five years of experience as a tutor for English Advanced. I work closely with all of my students to equip them with the skills and highly specific approach required for success in this challenging course. I am familiar with and have taught all major texts for all four modules. ● (2) Online tuition for English Extension 1 and English Extension 2 The Extension courses are demanding but immensely rewarding. Success in these subjects requires you to go beyond what you are taught at school, which is difficult without an experienced and capable guide. Having undertaken these courses in the very first year of the new syllabus, I am familiar with assessment requirements and markers’ expectations. For Extension 1 I offer tuition in all modules for both Year 11 and Year 12, including the Common Module and all Elective Modules. For Extension 2 I offer structured guidance, mentorship, and feedback on all aspects of the process, including ideation, planning, drafting, and revision. Although I work with students undertaking Major Works of all forms, I have particular expertise in the print forms, including short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and critical response. A significant proportion of marks are allocated to the Reflection Statement and internal assessments – including the Viva Voce, Literature Review, and Critique of the Creative Process – and I am able to offer quite practical guidance with these tasks as well. ● (3) Individualised extension programs for talented students in earlier years (Years 5–10) There is no better way to give your child an advantage in life – to mould them into a clear and critical thinker who will excel at whatever they choose to do – than to nurture a passion for the written word at an early age. This is, in turn, best done through a guided encounter with great works of literature from all periods of history, conducted by a knowledgeable mentor. I was fortunate enough to be so guided myself, and I am glad to be now in a position to offer the same to a younger generation. Such a program might cover a broad range of works, from ancient to medieval to modern. However, I can also prepare a curriculum of texts and topics tailored to your child’s areas of interest. This is a new offering, and to my knowledge no comparable opportunity is offered elsewhere.
