About

Hi, I'm Morgan and I am a percussionist! I am highly enthusiastic and dedicated to music, and I am very, very passionate about all types of music. As a person, I am inquisitive, encouraging, friendly, patient, and observant. I know that these qualities are very important in being a private tutor because a teacher must recognise that each student has their own way of learning. As their teacher, it is my job to identify this and to ignite the student's sense of passion and excitement in playing music and being a musician. What instruments do I teach? I teach percussion of all different sorts! This includes: -Keyboard instruments such as xylophone, marimba, glockenspiel, and vibraphone. -Timpani. -Snare drum. -Classical percussion accessories including tambourine, triangle, and more. -Drums. Availability: Despite my Saturday and Sunday timeslot, I am happy to negotiate the day and time of lessons to accommodate the student and their parents. Biography: Morgan Veal is a highly enthusiastic 3rd-year percussionist studying at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music under Tom O’Kelly. In 2018, Morgan placed joint-second at the annual Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Competition. He has recently worked with Camerata in concert with Eskimo Joe, as well as perform in Mahler’s 8th Symphony at QPAC under Maestro Johannes Fritzsch. In 2019, Morgan will be playing again with Camerata and the Queensland Ballet in the Dangerous Liaisons concert series. He has also been awarded the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence in both 2017 and 2018, with an Undergraduate GPA of 6.36. This includes straight 7s throughout his course in Performance Study and in Aural Studies. My approach to teaching students: My first and foremost goal is to teach my students how to play instruments. This means that I will teach them how to organise their practice, how to approach learning, and what tools they can use to achieve their musical goals. I will then teach the student how to learn on their own so that they can explore rhythms, melodies, harmonies, and emotions. In doing so, they will learn how to practice and play independently at home. As a teacher to a student, I strive to imbue a sense of excitement and passion for learning music, going to lessons, and learning at home. With my lessons, the student needs the next lesson, rather than “having to go to one”. I will explain and show my students how to listen to music, and we will instigate why a certain piece of music makes us feel a certain way. Finally, I will teach and encourage my students how to write music, because music is about learning and evolving. Being a passionate teacher means that I am very invested in the student. It is therefore very important that you, the student, make sure that you do not waste the lesson and maximise it fully. I am very keen to see the student go above and beyond my wishes, and I am very welcoming of any and every question that they present. I must stress that I highly encourage the student to learn as much as they want and bring everything they have to the lesson so that I can teach them even more and thus ignite a sense of passion and excitement within them!
