Experienced math and physics tutor with over a decade of experience in one-on-one teaching. My name is Zakary Jay Nicholls, and I am a secondary & university educator focused on the fields of mathematics and physics. I have worked as a tutor for the last 14 years (in both in person and online lesson formats) and during my time in the industry have taught over 15000 hours of one-on-one, and small group, lessons to in excess of 2000 students. I began my career back in 2011, initially as a K-10 tutor teaching mathematics, later training as a vocational teacher and expanding my tuition into business studies and economics, and later into full scale instruction in K-12 and university math and physics. My extensive experience, and demonstrated history of strong student improvements, make me one of the most successful tutors in the state. I am highly skilled at generating improvements for students in both academic and vocational pathways. I received my bachelor's degree in commerce specialized in economics and mathematics from the Newcastle business school at the University of Newcastle, alongside a certificate in business management (focused on staff training) from HBA learning and a certificate in vocational teaching (focused on numeracy teaching) from the Newcastle TAFE. I later received a diploma in general studies science and a graduate certificate in mathematics both specialized in mathematics and statistics from the school of computing, mathematics, and engineering at Charles Sturt University, followed by a graduate diploma of science in astrophysics and physics from the school of mathematics, physics, and computing at the University of Southern Queensland. In addition to my teaching, I am actively engaged as a public academic and commentator in my fields of expertise. I am the current chairman of the Newcastle Permanant primary school mathematics competition (taking over from current incumbent Mr Merv Curren in April 2024), I run a YouTube page dedicated to math and physics (In order to provide high quality resources to students seeking online videos - search ZJNT on YouTube to find my videos), I am a routine volunteer marker on Khan Academy, I am an expert contributor in the continued and higher education forum on LinkedIn, I am a contributor to math/continued education forums on Bored of Studies, and I run a Quora page (focused on STEM and STEM education) with over fifty thousand monthly views and over 500 followers. For any students taking physics, I run a full-service physics course, covering the entire course completely, for students doing math lessons my lessons are based on their classroom teacher schedule. I take on new enrollments for 9-10 mathematics at any stage of the course, physics at any stage of the course, for year 11-12 math I only take on new students in year 11 or below and teach through to the end of year 12. If you are interested in trying to secure a lesson slot, please send me a message and I will be in touch as soon as I can.

Reviews

Thanks for teaching me over the past years I've really appreciated it!!! :) - Mia O (Student Feedback - 2023) [Mia has recently completed Year 12] -- Thank you again, my study is going well and I look forward to reviewing the university notes you've sent me before uni starts. - Greg F (Student Feedback - 2023) [Greg was an Extension 1 Math student of mine who will be studying University Engineering in 2024] -- I definitely feel I went into the exam the strongest I have in a bit because I knew what I knew and I knew enough to scavenge some marks from questions I wasn't completely sure about. I did also get some of the really challenging questions right. Character references

I worked with zak when he was the maths tutor at the Green room MP at Warner's Bay from 2016 to 2019. Zak was a popular tutor with many of his students rebooking lesson with him over a number of years. He was always friendly and when he left in 2019, most of his students finished their lesson with us and saught out him privately.
