About

Looking for a tutor who doesn’t fit the conventional mould? I’m currently undertaking a PhD in Physics at the University of Melbourne, while working part time in computing/IT. I was home-schooled for five years and completed my final three years of secondary education at Melbourne High School achieving strong VCE scores in English, Mathematics, Physics and IT. I then completed my Bachelor's Degree in Science (majoring in physics, but also completing many maths, IT and Creative Writing subjects), as well as my Master's Degree in Physics, both at the University of Melbourne. Students learn in different ways and, as a result, I believe that teaching should be adapted to each individual. Having had an unorthodox education, I feel that I am able to offer a different perspective to that of others and, in so doing, provide suggestions and strategies catered to a student’s strengths and weaknesses. Specifically, I can offer alternative methods in order to understand difficult and/or problematic material. Also, if required, I am able to consult with my peers and the academics at University on any intractable problems and/or topics beyond the scope of the course material. I have been a professional private tutor for around 10 years now, and have also been employed by the University of Melbourne as a Physics tutor and Lab Demonstrator. I helped students in physics, as well as those in Maths, English/English Literature, and even Medicine/Biomedical studies. I have had experience with students from all walks of life, at all education levels, and with all types of wants, needs and challenges. I am happy to help with all levels of Maths (Regular, General/Further, Methods and Specialist), English and Science/Physics from years 7-12 (VCE), as well as University level Physics and Maths. I am personable, attentive and committed to your educational success and can be contacted outside of tutoring sessions to handle any urgent issues or enquiries, free of additional charge! Thanks and good luck with your studies! _________________________________________________________ NEW - PLEASE READ BELOW! Please note - ALL prices are NEGOTIABLE! I understand times are tough, and your education is important, so I am more than happy to lower prices if needed. Similarly, I understand that people may have slightly different wants and needs (e.g. a long 3+ hour session, multiple students, 45 minute sessions, ...), so I am generally happy to accommodate and find something that works for you or your children, as well as provide some sort of discount. Just send me a message and we can discuss further. ALSO - I generally do NOT charge extra if a session goes over by around half an hour! I usually don't like to leave students' with an incomplete understanding, or leave partway through a problem. SO, if we are still in the middle of things, once the usual hour is "up", I am more than happy to continue for free until we finish (within reason). Again, if you have any concerns, feel free to ask me about it! I also do work and tutoring to help those with NDIS FUNDING - so if this applies to you, I am also happy to discuss this with you further! _________________________________________________________ I offer a number of different services including: * Regular weekly (or fortnightly) tutoring sessions ($70/hour in-person, $65/hour online). Most Popular! Happy to do more than one hour at a time, as needed. * Intermittent tutoring sessions, on an as-needs basis, or for a short period of time of less than 4 weeks ($75/hour in-person, $70/hour online) * Group sessions of 2 or more people - weekly, or as needs ($55/person/hour) * Group session of 4 or more people ($40/person/hour) * Short (around 10-15 minutes, give or take) online "Q&A" sessions. Send me a difficult question, textbook problem etc via email beforehand, and I'll prepare an answer, and we can work through it and discuss, online. NOTE - this is INCLUDED with ALL regular online, or in-person weekly sessions. That is, if we have a regular class, and a question comes up outside of our normal session, I am more than happy to do an ADDITIONAL short online session to work through the problem with you/your child! * FEEDBACK – This is especially useful for English, and reports/writing in other subjects. If you give me a copy (hardcopy or email scan/pdf/word doc), I will read, review and provide extensive feedback on all areas. Not just misspellings and grammar, but also on sentence structure and flow, ideas and arguments, and more. I will help you write and craft a better essay, report and/or piece of writing! ($40/1000 words, or FREE with regular weekly tutoring sessions!) * If you have multiple students you would like me to tutor (e.g. two children), but want a separate session for each, on the same day (i.e. in consecutive hours), I will charge $60/hour (e.g. $120 for two hours, where the first hour is for the first student, and second hour is for the second student) * If you have any concerns, considerations, or would just like to "meet" me first, I am also happy to briefly meet you/your child in person, or online for free, where I can answer any questions, tell you more about myself, or just talk to you/your child to help you gauge your/their interest and chemistry with me. * I will happily also provide additional example problems and question sheets, as well as summary notes, FREE for any regular, weekly students! * NEW FOR 2026 - Comprehensive Topic, Term, Semester and Holiday Intensive Sessions. These classes will run for 2+ hours at a time, and can be made on consecutive days, or weekly (whatever you want), and will cover a FULL topic, semester, or term's-worth of material. These are great for students who want to get ahead, who want an initial run-through and understanding of what is to come, or those who have upcoming assignments, tests, CATs, SACs, or exams and need to revise all of the material. These sessions can be held anytime that normal sessions can be but are often recommended for the beginning of a year, term or semester, during the school holidays, or at least a couple of weeks prior to any major assessment. I usually tutor students at their homes, but am also happy to work a local library, or other venue if preferred. Additionally, I mainly tutor those who live within a short driving distance from me, but I am still happy to drive further, possibly for a slight additional fee, if required, or alternatively meet at some middle point between us (e.g. a library). Comprehensive Online Tutoring provided through the platform of your choice! ZOOM, WEBEX, AND MOST OTHER REMOTE SERVICES!

Reviews

Christian is an amazing tutor and teacher! He helped Ben, my son, with his VCE English and Maths and he was able to get a study score above 45 for both! I was so proud! Christian really did such a great job not only in teaching content, but also reigniting Ben’s natural interest for learning. Christian seemed to really cater his teaching to Ben, and whatever he needed at the time. Sometimes classes were more formal, going through all the content he was unsure about. Other times, especially in English, classes were a more informal discussion session where Christian and Ben threw ideas back and forth regarding the book they were studying. Upon talking to Ben after, he said that this really helped him gain a greater understanding for the book and its themes, and that it felt more fun and like talking to a friend, instead of a boring lesson. And sometimes when needed, Christian also helped work through homework and problems, especially with Maths, as Ben just needed to get practice with doing the calculations. I think if you talk to Christian, he will easily be able to help with any specific needs that your children may have too, and have fun and interesting sessions that cater to their specific learning capabilities and interests!

My son is on the spectrum, and Christian has been a huge help in both their social and emotional development, as well as getting through many of the academic challenges that they regularly face. His patience and simple yet meaningful way of explaining and demonstrating things is to be commended. I know that my son always looks forward to his sessions with Christian and he is really flourishing with his help!

Character references

Christian has tutored both my children over the course of many years, all the way from year 7 through to VCE and year 12. To say that he has been instrumental in their academic success is an understatement! Christian has shown so much care and consideration to my kids, always willing to work overtime, with no extra charge, until they fully understand a troublesome concept or problem. He is enthusiastic, charismatic, and seems to connect with my children very well. Never talking down to them, but making them feel heard, and relating to their issues. I would recommend anyone who needs a tutor to contact Christian! The experience has been second to none!

I have worked with Christian for a number of years now at the University of Melbourne. During this time, he has helped tutor and teach hundreds of students in various areas of physics, maths and computing. Christian's devotion, enthusiasm and work ethic to help his students is always impressive. He has always gone above and beyond, work extra time, developing his own help-notes and resources and spending time to understand each student's individual needs. He is a tutor I can always turn to, and he has proven himself in both one-on-one teaching, as well as full classes of 25+ students. I highly recommend Christian and his services to any one who may need help in his areas of expertise!

Travel policy

I will typically drive to students' houses for sessions, but if you live a bit too far away, I am still happy to discuss other options with you (still drive to you for an additional fee, meet at some middle point between us, or conduct sessions online instead). I am always open to discussion, if you want to have a tutoring session at a particular location (e.g. library), or if you want a session at a time not listed. I'm generally very flexible with my times, so if you don't see one that suits you, just send me a message and I'll see if I can accommodate!
