Hi! My name is Adelaide and I'm in my third year of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland. I graduated in 2022 from Brisbane Girls Grammar School with an unadjusted ATAR of 98.80. My best Year 12 subjects were:
Biology = 97/100
Chemistry = 97/100
Economics = 95/100
English = 94/100
Physics = 94/100
I have been tutoring for the past four years for students aged Year 3-12, and I love teaching primary and secondary school equally. For Years 9 and below, I can confidently tutor English, Science, and Maths at $40/hr. For Years 10-12, I can confidently tutor my senior subjects as listed above at $55/hr.
My goal as a tutor is to enhance my students' learning, so I adapt my teaching style to the individual, taking into account age, learning style, and general personality.
For primary-age students, I tend to make the activities into games or make up fun challenges based on their interests to maintain focus and enjoyment. Once I can identify conceptual issues or a knowledge gap, I can then tailor the activities to teach that specific skill which can then be applied in worksheets. I have worked with young children in multiple capacities including babysitting, so I can appreciate the importance of patience, kindness, and adaptability.
For high school students, they are often capable of highlighting common issues they're having, so I allow for a larger degree of autonomy in that sense. Assessment becomes a top priority as students approach Year 11, so I often narrow the focus of my help to the specific task at hand for assignments and broaden it for exam study.
I have a Blue Card and a Driver's License, so I can do at-home sessions or meet at a library, but I'm more than happy to do online sessions as well.
