About

Hi everyone, my name is James! First and foremost, I am a qualified and experienced mathematics teacher with the NSW Department of Education. I have worked across a range of schools both urban, regional and remote. Taught a diversity of students ranging from those struggling to obtain Stage 3 outcomes to Stage 6 Mathematics Extension 1 students. Throughout my career, I have also taught students from a wide range of nationalities, ranging from natural citizens, second generation Australians and recent immigrants.

I firmly support the idea of positive, respectful relationships between students and the teacher to achieve effective learning outcomes. I would like to spend getting to know my students on a personal as well as academic level so that they feel comfortable with me and are able to confidently voice any concerns they have. I am dedicated to spending extra time breaking down complicated concepts into simple, achievable steps.

Due to my extra-curricular experience as scout leader and being a first generation Australian, I am able to cater for written, rote, visual and kinesthetic styles of learning. I support the idea of learning being positive, meaningful and engaging to all my students

In my personal life, I have recently earned my 5 year service badge as an assistant scout leader with Scouts Australia. I am also a publicity officer for the Blue Mountains Amateur Radio Club and have a Amateur Radio Assessor licence.

Travel policy

Due to COVID restrictions and personal reasons, I will do individual lessons either by Zoom or at the closest public library. Am able to do groups up to 5 students, and will do groups only at a public library. If I get a group of 5 students, I will charge $20 per head as opposed to $30 per student. I am mainly interested in tutoring around Paramatta and Ryde, but am happy to travel to Hurstville, Sutherland Shire, Chatswood and Sydney CBD. Country students, I do lessons by Zoom only.
