Nicholas M
Tutoring near Haberfield, Sydney, NSW

Hi! I'm Nic, I graduated from St Aloysius College in 2019 achieving an ATAR of 96.15, and am currently studying Bachelor of Engineering (Majoring in Data) and a Diploma of Professional Engineering Practice at UTS. I loved being at school and I would love nothing more than to share the experiences and learning from the last 13 years with current high school students. As a recent graduate, I can better apply my own experiences of the changes being implemented through new syllabuses, school climates, and school expectations to benefit the learning of current senior students.

My passions at school were in Maths, English, and Drama because of the opportunity to express my thoughts creatively as well as the enjoyment I had whilst doing the work I was doing. This was reflected in my achievements in these subject areas in Year 12:

Advanced English - 87/100
Drama - 94/100
Extension 1 Mathematics - 92/100
Extension 2 Mathematics - 86/100

As far as experience goes, I have already acquired teaching and tutoring experience both inside and outside a conventional school environment. I spent January-March in Micronesia teaching English and Maths to Grades 5, 6, and 8 at my local elementary school.

Within school walls, as a senior student, I tutored through an Academic Support program where students from varying year groups could attend an afterschool period with their homework and assignments and seek help.

Personally, I don’t believe in tutoring to be an excuse to have someone else do the work for the student. I see my role to be one to reinforce the learning done at school as well as be a guide to how homework, assignments, and test performance could be improved -- Setting you up for independent learning and thinking rather than co-dependence. I will do this by using my own notes, creating materials that cater to your needs, and providing and enacting exam strategies that can better your performance.

I hope that I can provide the service that you are looking for and if so, I would like nothing more than to hear from you! Good luck with all your academic ventures and I hope to hear from you soon.
