Currently accepting 2021 students!
Hi there, my name is Tom. I'm a second-year uni student studying Arts at the University of Melbourne. I'm offering online and face-to-face tutoring in 2021 for VCE English, Literature, Legal Studies, French, and History Revolutions.
I graduated from St Kevin's College Toorak in 2019 as the Dux of the College, receiving an ATAR of 99.90. Over the past year, I have had over 350 hours of experience tutoring students from Year 7 to Year 12.
I achieved perfect study scores of 50 in English, Legal Studies, and Literature (Premier's Award), as well as scoring a 43 (scaled 50) in French, meaning I was the Dux of these subjects at my school. I also studied History Revolutions in 2018, achieving a 46 in this subject. Beyond academics, I enjoy time spent with friends and family, playing sport and working part-time locally.
Students with whom I work will have the opportunity to set academic goals and work to achieve them, building key skills and knowledge in their specific subject fields. While I have particular expertise in the Year 12 VCE curriculum, I am confident and willing to tutor younger students in these subject areas. I am always open to questions. I will be able to share my in-depth notes for all subjects, amended for the particular needs of students.
For English and Literature, I have expertise in a number of VCE texts for both Units 3 & 4, as well as Units 1 & 2. I am happy, however, to familiarise myself with a specific text of a student and provide analysis and advice for it. Atop this, I can provide detailed advice on essay writing, as the writing tasks of these two subjects are very specific and often complicated. I can provide practice exam tasks for English and Literature, and provide exam-technique advice also.
For Legal Studies, I can provide in-depth yet concise notes, as well as hundreds of practice exam questions, and tasks to hone student understanding before SAC tasks. Students can enter the exam period with confidence about the task involved in VCE Legal Studies.
For French, which is a difficult and acquired skill, I can offer weekly sessions to improve speaking, listening, writing and reading skills in the language, all key components of the exam. I can work alongside students to improve and edit their Detailed Study and General Conversation for the Oral component of the exam, as well as providing mock-Oral tasks every week to improve one's speaking skills. I can revisit key grammar structures and other foundational elements of French where necessary in a simple and understandable manner, so that students can enter the French exam with great confidence.
For History: Revolutions, I studied the American and Russian Revolutions, and I have an extensive range of resources, including notes, practice examinations and SAC tasks as well as an array of other key documents that were extremely helpful when I sat the subject.
I am passionate about these subject areas and seek to convey this through my tutoring. The work I do with individual students will be tailored to their needs; setting specific goals, developing certain skills and identifying weaknesses and areas for improvement. I will seek to make myself readily contactable at all times throughout the week via email or phone.
I am open to doing group sessions, online sessions or one-off tutorials for those who either do not have the time or the need to do continual sessions.
