About

Hi! I graduated Kingswood College in 2018 with an ATAR of 98.75. In 2021, I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts (first-class honours), majoring in history with a minor in political science and literature. In 2023, I am studying a Master of International Relations with a Concurrent Diploma in Russian at the University of Melbourne. As a diligent and conscientious tutor, I would relish the opportunity to help you improve your results in History: Revolutions (Russian and French Revolutions), Global Politics, Literature, and English. I attained study scores of 48 for Global Politics, 47 for History, 43 for English, and 42 for Literature along with receiving the Dux of my school and numerous academic accolades throughout VCE such as the publishing of an English essay as an exemplar in the Insight English Year 11 textbook. Since completing my VCE studies, I have continued to attain excellent results at university and, at the conclusion of the 2019 academic year, I was awarded the John Sanderson Exhibition prize as the student with the highest aggregate mark in first-year English, the Cromarty Prize for the best essay in the first-year English, and the exhibition for 1st year history, awarded to the best undergraduate student in 1st year history. In 2021, I was awarded a placement in the Melbourne Arts Students Society academic writing competition for an essay entitled ‘Mapping the Politics of Financial Crises’. As a masters student, in 2022, I was the recipient of the European Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand (ESAANZ) award for the best postgraduate essay in Australia for an essay entitled, 'Intervention, Ideology, Strategic Imperatives: An Examination of Fluctuating Relations between Russia/USSR and sub-Saharan Africa'. This essay was subsequently published in the peer-reviewed journal, ANZJES. ** As the current health climate is extremely volatile, I'm more than willing to tutor students remotely through mediums like Skype or Zoom. Likewise, for students in need of additional support as some schools begin to close or transition to online learning, I'm more than willing to provide services. ** Having recently completed year 12, I have an intimate understanding of these subjects and can offer invaluable guidance in concepts and content; essay writing, exam technique, and short answer questions; and general management of stress and the year 12 workload. I can also provide you with a number of exemplar resources (essays and short answer questions, including marked SACs) along with practice SACs and exams written by current year 12 teachers. Sessions will be directed by you and I am open to doing anything from covering subject matter and content in-depth; revision and preparation for SACs; or concentrated sessions to improve a specific skill such as essay writing. I am widely read having had a lifelong passion for classic literature and am familiar with most of the texts on both the English and literature curriculums. I welcome further inquiries about specific texts. Furthermore, I engaged extensively with academic resources in both history and politics which will allow me to provide you with indispensable insight into the key tensions and debates that pertain to both revolutions' and the world of domestic and international politics. My general knowledge and passion for history, literature and politics will be a valuable asset for any prospective students as I will be able to quickly and succinctly explain any questions you may have. I will tailor lessons to suit your specific needs and learning style so you can improve as much as possible. Ideally, lessons will take place at the Box Hill or Nunawading libraries (though I may be able to accommodate other public libraries); or, your home - though, depending on the distance I have to travel, this may incur extra cost. Prices vary depending on the service (subject in question and specific focus) you want, whether it is a group or individual session and any travel costs. A rough estimate of rates are as follows: Individual rate is $60/hr Groups of 2 are $45/hr/person Groups of 3 are $30/hr/person Groups of 4 are $25/hr/person I am willing to meet beforehand and discuss any queries you have free of charge. Please PM me for enquiries and further details. Please note: the availabilities listed are by no means set in stone and I am very flexible about when and where I can tutor. I have a valid working with children's check.

Reviews

Ben is great tutor and I have thoroughly enjoyed our tutoring sessions for the 2 years he has tutored me. I have experienced several tutors over the course of my education but, Ben is the best tutor I have had. He is very knowledgeable in the realm of VCE English and highly personable. His tutoring style allows the student to direct session and actually get what needs to be done out of the way. If your looking to smash VCE English, I highly recommend Ben.

Ben recently began tutoring for my year 11 child. He initially took the time to understand exactly where their needs lay and caters the lessons to suit. Ben is very knowledgeable and plans the lessons well to ensure the child is challenged in the right areas.
