About

Bonjour. Je m'appelle Timothy et je suis diplômé de Melbourne High School en 2021. I will be offering French tutoring for VCE as well as students at lower year levels who are studying French at school, have an interest in French and have the intention to continue with it to the VCE level. I achieved a raw study score of 45 (scaled to 52) in French, with an ATAR of 99.10, in addition to being the dux of French at Melbourne High School and having received the Melbourne High School French Subject Prize of the Late Mr Keith Lake. My Year 12 students have achieved an impressive median raw score of 40 which scaled to 49.4 almost full marks. The French language is extremely beautiful and a genuine pleasure to learn. However, due to the very high scaling of the subject in the VCE, there are many students who may not be very strong or interested in the subject but simply choose to study it due to its scaling. However, VCE French scales almost as much as the extremely difficult VCE Specialist Maths for a reason! It is a very demanding, competitive and rigorous course about a language that is often quite confusing and contradictory. That is why I have decided to tutor French to share my experiences, joy and struggles with learning the language as a non-native speaker and show to students that it is really something worthwhile to appreciate, enjoy and learn and not just some sort of ATAR hack. Classes will most likely be ONLINE, via Zoom. I am able to do both one to one tutoring and group tutoring. I also have a valid Working with Children Check. Why pick me as a tutor? - Lessons are strategically planned to be once a week, for one hour, in order to comprehensively prepare for SACs, the Oral and Written Exams, or any other CATs, exams or competitions that students wish to be prepared for. - I am committed to helping with student questions whenever they ask me. I am also happy to work with students in order for them to reach their goals and aspirations in their learning of the French language and their goals for VCE French. - I am flexible in terms of how I can help students. I can teach them specially prepared grammatical content, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, improve their competencies in listening and reading through targeted exercises, mark and give individualised feedback for written essays, intensively engage in spoken French conversations with students to improve their speaking and pronunciation skills, help them with their existing work from school, and questions that they bring me. - With regards to the dreaded Oral examination, I will provide lots of advice, tricks and support for students so that they do not have to resort to the arduous and frankly useless task of memorising boring and length responses word for word. - I am very familiar with the very demanding VCE French course and its rigidity. It is unfortunate that to get a high score in VCE French heavily relies on "gaming the system". I will ensure that every VCE student I teach will be well equipped with lots of tricks and excellent examination techniques to help them achieve their full potential on SACs and the Oral and Written Examinations. - I am extremely passionate about learning languages, particularly French, and will use this passion to motivate students and to help them unleash their potential. - I also aim to provide students with as much understanding and access to French culture as possible in order to bolster their interest and motivation in learning this romantic language (and also the fact that a strong understanding of and appreciation for French culture is often what separates average study scores from top-scoring study scores). - I believe the key to success in French is to not only master the core foundations of reading, listening, writing and speaking but also to be genuinely confident and interested in learning this beautiful language. Spots will be limited so be sure to express your interest! Please contact me to register your interest, and to ask further questions and discuss further details Je serai aux anges de vous rencontrer bientôt!
