About

Hello! My name is Joy and I've just graduated from a Bachelor of Arts, dual majoring in English Literature and Writing at the University of Queensland. I have also done many History and Ancient History subjects at school and at university. I am about to undertake an Honours year at UQ in English, where I'll be commencing a year of further research in literary studies. I love sharing my passion for those subjects, and can help high-school students with various difficulties in research and essay writing, close-reading and comprehension skills, report & creative assignments, etc in areas of English, Literature, Ancient and Modern History, and Creative Writing.

I have a personable, friendly, and professional teaching style, and a love for encouraging other students in their studies to achieve academic excellence and truly enjoy learning. Enriched by my academic and professional experience I can help you understand difficult concepts, aid you in brainstorming an assignment, and provide mentoring support by tailoring my teaching style to suit your particular learning needs.

I offer tutoring at my home, though preferably online through ZOOM since the start of COVID-19. I am also available for tutoring at Cleveland & Victoria Point libraries or at a cafe in the Redlands area. I do not do home visits.

Work Experience:
For the past two years, I have been providing high-quality private tutoring for many high-school students from year 6 through to yrs 11 and 12 and have gained a lot of hands-on experience with different types of students with their academic needs. I have also been hired since 2019 to tutor at Union College as a college-tutor in the subjects of English Literature and History/Ancient History for university students in their first and second year.

In 2020 I had the role of student representative for the English Literature major at UQ and participated in a student partnership project aimed at supporting English Literature Students in their First Year at University during COVID-19. Further, I am one of the editors for UQ's humanities undergraduate student journal, Jacaranda, which has provided me in-depth training and experience in editing student's work. In 2021, I will be assuming the position of President of the newly established UQ English and Literature Society.
