About

Update: I am no longer accepting new students for this academic year. Hi, I'm Liam! I'm a secondary school teacher, currently teaching English, Literature, and Philosophy. I tutor these subjects privately, as well as generalised study skills through my tutoring company, Examined Life Education. I have tutored privately for nine years. During this time I have provided help and guidance to a diverse range of students with varying abilities and educational challenges, from those struggling to keep up to those seeking entry into select schools. As a practicing teacher, I have an in-depth knowledge of the Victorian and New South Wales curriculum and frequently attend professional development conferences, so you can feel confident that your child's tutor knows exactly what is required to succeed in class. I have taught at both public and private schools, and in the tertiary sector, and have a track record of producing excellent results in the VCE & HSC subjects I teach. In my tutoring I draw on my professional experience and background in educational psychology to provide a compassionate tutoring environment tailored to each student's individual needs. I create and gather custom resources for each student and offer ongoing email support outside of tutoring hours. Tutoring is $60/hour. This includes the hour of one-on-one tutoring along with ongoing email support outside of tutoring hours and written feedback for essays and assignments. I currently in-person and remotely through Zoom, Skype, and Teams.

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Education from Monash University. I also hold a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of New England, with a particular focus on educational psychology.

I’m a uni now but Liam was my tutor in high school. I found it really helpful that he emailed me feedback and was around to answer questions when I was preparing for sacs.

Liam's a good tutor. He's helped me understand what makes a good literature essay, what the common mistakes are, and why using critical lenses is important. His email support has helped me a lot during the lead up to Literature sacs as well.

My daughter fell behind in a few subjects due to medical problems. She wanted to catch up but was anxious about interacting with a tutor (she's very shy). I spoke to Liam on the phone before my daughter met him and he was very understanding about her anxiety. Each week we found him to be well-prepared, kind, and reassuring. My daughter has nearly caught up now and appears to have a lot more confidence in her work.

I've had a few English tutors before but having an actual teacher tutor me has helped so much. With previous tutors my marks improved a bit but never very much. With tutoring from Liam they've improved a lot. If you're having trouble with a particular text in English, Liam goes off and reads/watches the whole thing and creates/collects useful resources for you before you arrive for tutoring. He knows heaps about the texts and can give you lots of useful hints for writing good quality responses because he knows exactly what the markers are looking for.

Liam tutored me in year 12 English in 2016. Even though I did heaps of them in year 11, when I started year 12 I still had no idea how to write a good language analysis. I was pretty much convinced I was going to fail that component of the English exam. Mum found Liam through a family friend. I was pretty nervous at first because I'd never had any tutoring before, but Liam was really helpful. He never made me feel judged or stupid and always encouraged me to ask any questions I had. My language analysis essays improved a lot, my SAC marks went up, and I actually did well on that part of the exam.
